What it does

Phone as capture device

The mobile app (Phonecap) uses your phone's camera and mic. Recording runs entirely on the device, so brief Wi‑Fi drops don't affect the take. You get high-quality, local capture without streaming the raw feed.

Desktop as control room

The desktop app (Mac) shows live previews from one or more phones, lets you start/pause/stop recording and add markers, and pulls recordings to your Mac when you're done. Projects, multi-camera layouts, and an optional built-in editor keep everything in one place.

Same network, no cloud

Phone and desktop talk over your local network (WebSocket + optional WebRTC for preview). No upload of raw video to the cloud; you stay in control of your media.

Optional editing

After pulling a session to the desktop, you can switch to Edit mode and work with a timeline (cuts, layout, export) without leaving the app.

How it works

    Run the desktop app on your Mac and open Connect to get the WebSocket URL.

  2. 2

    Run the phone app (Phonecap) on your device—scan the QR code or enter the URL.

  3. 3

    Ensure phone and desktop are on the same Wi‑Fi.

  4. 4

    Start recording from the desktop; the phone captures camera and mic locally. When done, pull the files to your Mac.

The desktop app supports progressive updates—once installed, you get new versions without redownloading.
